Have you ever been completely taken in by a website, but couldn’t really say why?
That’s because many of the visual cues are recognized subconsciously, rather than consciously. These include data-driven cues, color, call to action placement, type choice and format, and images (see more here).
A good website creator will pay scrupulous attention to these and other tried-and-true techniques when they develop a new website.
Here’s an example of a website makeover that incorporates some of these principles.
Behind-the-Scenes of a Website Makeover
Ag World’s website had served them well in the past but was ready for an update to reflect their continued momentum and growth. They knew what their customers wanted to see on their website and provided the content. We built their site on a new platform that would be easier for them to maintain, mobile-friendly, visually stronger, and easy to navigate.
The Process
Knowing that 75% of people base the credibility of a business on how their website looks, the first step in our process was to focus on the visual look and feel of the site.
We updated and edited the photos on the site to introduce a more energized, brighter, and technology-driven aesthetic. And, since it only takes about 50 milliseconds for someone to form an opinion of your website, we intentionally featured the best photos on the top banners of each page of the site—and added more images sitewide.
Once the visual look was established, we migrated the content from the original site over to the new one—stylizing and correcting spelling and any other grammatical errors in the process.
The most dramatic visual transformation for this redesign can be seen on their Who We Are page. On the original site, there were no photos to accompany the timeline of their company’s history. To create more visual interest, we added photos to the page so even people who don’t read the text would get a sense of their history.
If you’re struggling with being dissatisfied with your website, remember that a website is a constant work in progress—we make changes to our own sometimes multiple times in a week! Expecting this to be part of your process will align with reality and create less frustration.

You can (and should!) check analytics any time—to see where your visitors are going—without asking a third-party vendor for them.
You’ll know the exact financial commitment up front—with no surprises later. There are no unexpected expenses for upgrades and no monthly maintenance fees.
Your site is sustainable and easy to change as your business grows or changes, allowing you to modify it without requiring a complete rebuild.
